Answers from GM:
1. From the Manual for the Suzi LS650 the final drive ratio is the same whether 4 or 5 speed,2.956. The difference is that the 5 speed should hurl you better into the top range than the longer pull in a 4 gear box. Theory does suck sometimes though.
2. I have found no customs other than Web Cams having ground an unlisted cam and a local shop that will machine a cam or billet piston for me. The custom fith gear will cost about$US2,500 to $5,000. The price is high (so high you get a nose bleed) because of engineering time and matching the Rockwell hardness so as to fit the box and share the wear characteristics, etc.
3. The 8.5:1 compression ratio is low enough to PROBABLY not require any piston mods (initially).
When one introduces additional air (from the turbo) for which the current electronics are not aware, the timing could be off a great deal. There are many variables that need to be taken into account such as CFM, jetting (low and high speed, needle profile (standard at this point) and the general logic for the engine, ie, long life standard or short life for racing. The idea is to find a middle ground that matches my desires (because the warranty is out the window with the turbo).
A comment has been made that this engine is not for souping up. I will probably agree after a lot of time and money. Let's just say we'll see.
By the way, did you twist the idle adjust, re-jet,
shape the needle or other carb mod?
